Freelancer ITR preparation

ITR filing support for freelancers.

Prepare an organised record set for income-tax return review by bringing together freelance income, business expenses, receipts and unresolved questions.

  • Expense evidence organised
  • Questions flagged before filing

True connections. True progress.

Who this is for

Start the return process with explainable records.

The return can only be as reliable as the records behind it. Truetal helps organise the accounting evidence and identify gaps. The taxpayer or an appropriately qualified tax professional must decide the applicable return form, tax treatment, deductions and final filing position.

Best fit: Freelancers who need to prepare complete business records before they or their appointed tax professional file an income-tax return.

What the workflow covers

Organise the records before deciding the treatment.

Income record pack

Bring client invoices and recorded receipts together for review instead of relying on bank credits alone.

Expense evidence

Keep business-expense records with the bills, receipts and explanations available to support them.

Bank and document gaps

Identify unexplained transactions, missing documents and open balances before the return is finalised.

Reviewer-ready summaries

Prepare organised accounting summaries and source records for the person responsible for the tax return.

Scope, timing and pricing

Separate the records pack from tax advice and filing.

Confirm the year and income profile before agreeing the work. Monthly bookkeeping, historical reconstruction, tax review, return submission and post-submission support are distinct tasks; do not assume all are included in a software price or a records-preparation quote.

Books already organised

Review the completeness of the income, expense and bank evidence available for the relevant year.

Agree the record-pack outputs and reviewer handoff.

Books need reconstruction

Missing months, mixed personal activity and unreconciled balances need separately scoped accounting work.

Confirm periods, source quality and opening balances.

Additional income or complexity

Other income, overseas receipts, investments or unresolved tax-credit differences can change the professional review required.

Disclose the full profile securely to the appointed reviewer.

Records and exports we can assess

  • Relevant-year invoice, expense, receipt and bank summaries, with unresolved items clearly identified.
  • A list of other income and known tax-credit differences for the appointed professional to review; specific documents are requested through an agreed secure method.
  • Previously prepared books/returns where needed, plus confirmation of who is responsible for tax advice and submission.

What the records-preparation scope can produce

  • An indexed accounting-record pack stating the covered year, source completeness and limitations.
  • Income/expense summaries and bank-reconciliation exceptions for reviewer consideration, not an unqualified tax opinion.
  • A list of missing documents and unresolved differences with a named owner.
  • A documented handoff to the taxpayer or appointed tax professional, with final filing/proof responsibilities separately agreed.

What determines turnaround

Agree the records deadline and reviewer handoff after the scope is known. A date for organising records is not a guaranteed filing date; unresolved documents or review questions may require additional work.

What determines the price

  • whether complete books exist or historical reconstruction is required
  • record volume, bank accounts and missing documents
  • income types, overseas/platform evidence and unresolved differences
  • accounting outputs versus separately engaged tax review and submission
  • any agreed correction, notice or post-submission support

This page offers a scoping conversation for organising records. Truetal does not claim live direct income-tax or GST return filing through the software, guaranteed refunds, automatic form selection or professional certification.

Illustrative review and handover

The proof checklist must reach beyond “sent to the accountant”.

Illustrative handoff checklist. These are responsibilities to agree with the person engaged for the actual tax work, not a statement that Truetal has filed a return.

Before review

Record the covered year, supplied summaries, missing evidence and questions still requiring the taxpayer or reviewer to answer.

Before submission

The responsible professional or taxpayer reviews the proposed return and computation, resolves open items and confirms the final filing position.

After any submission

Obtain the submitted return/computation and portal acknowledgement from the filer; check the portal verification/status and preserve the evidence applicable to that return.

Acceptance: A prepared pack is accepted against the agreed record checklist. Return submission, verification, payment and subsequent processing are separate stages; an organised pack or a “sent” message is not proof of completion.

Secure handover and exit: Name the person following portal status and subsequent communications. Agree who retains the final files, how corrections are handled and when access ends; never disclose portal passwords or OTPs in the public form.

How the conversation works

Start with the records you already have.

  1. Gather freelance income and business-expense records.
  2. Compare the records with available bank evidence.
  3. Resolve missing documents and classification questions.
  4. Send the reviewed record pack to the person responsible for filing.
Clear boundaries

What this page does not promise

  • Truetal does not choose the return form, determine presumptive-tax eligibility or give a filing opinion on this page.
  • An organised record pack is not a filed return or proof of filing.
  • Any tax advice, certification or representation must come from an appropriately qualified professional engaged for that work.

A practical next step

Prepare your freelance records before ITR review.

Tell us the applicable year, income types and whether your books are complete. We will discuss the records-preparation scope and the next qualified-review step. Do not send PAN, tax statements or confidential records through the public enquiry.
