Small-business accounting

Accounting services for small businesses.

Bring sales, purchases, expenses, payments and bank activity into one organised accounting workflow. Start with a scoped books health check, then decide whether monthly support, catch-up work or software alone fits the records.

Connected workspace
  • Sample-month health check
  • Review-led reconciliations
  • Clear scope before work starts

True connections. True progress.

Who this is for

Keep the books connected to the work behind them.

Accounting is easier to review when every figure can be traced to an invoice, purchase, expense, payment or bank line. Truetal helps keep those records together and makes open questions visible instead of silently guessing the answer.

Best fit: Small businesses that want their day-to-day records organised before month-end review and reporting.

What the workflow covers

Organise the records before deciding the treatment.

Sales and purchase records

Keep customer invoices, supplier purchases and related documents organised in the same working system.

Bank and balance review

Compare bank activity with saved business records and leave uncertain matches for confirmation.

Accounting reports

Review ledgers, trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, receivables and payables from connected records.

Review trail

Retain the source and review history behind accounting decisions so corrections remain explainable.

Scope, timing and pricing

Choose the right starting scope before discussing a fee.

Monthly record count is a useful first filter, but it is not the whole quote. Bank and payment channels, GST registrations, inventory, marketplace settlements, old unreconciled periods and document quality can change the work materially.

Up to 100 records a month

Sales, purchase, expense and payment records for a smaller operation, usually with one GST registration and a limited number of bank or payment accounts.

Best starting point: one recent sample month and the current open-items list.

101–300 records a month

A growing business with regular receivables, payables, bank matching and GST review across more source documents or payment channels.

Best starting point: sample-month exports plus bank, customer and supplier summaries.

Over 300 or complex records

Inventory, marketplaces, multiple GST registrations, several bank accounts, high exception volume or historical clean-up needs a tailored review.

Best starting point: confirm systems, periods, registrations and exception types before records are transferred.

Records and exports we can assess

  • Readable exports from Excel or Google Sheets, Tally, Zoho Books, BUSY or another accounting system; direct integration is not assumed.
  • Sales and purchase registers, expense records, customer and supplier outstanding summaries, and relevant bank or payment statements.
  • GST registration count, inventory or marketplace context, the periods involved and a list of known gaps or unreconciled balances.

What the health check produces

  • A source-record completeness check for the agreed sample period.
  • A list of missing documents, unexplained balances and reconciliation exceptions that need an owner.
  • A proposed monthly, catch-up or software-only scope, with human-review responsibilities stated clearly.

What determines turnaround

The review date and expected turnaround are confirmed only after the record volume, file formats, access method and backlog are understood. A complex clean-up is not quoted as if it were a routine current-month close.

What determines the price

  • monthly sales, purchase, expense and payment record volume
  • number of bank accounts, payment channels and GST registrations
  • inventory, marketplace, payroll or multi-location complexity
  • months of backlog and the quality of source documents
  • review frequency and the split of work between the business, Truetal and its appointed adviser

These bands are a scoping guide, not a fixed-price promise. Truetal confirms compatibility, access, responsibilities, timing and fees before any paid work begins.

Illustrative review and handover

A sample health-check finding, not a promise that the books are closed.

Illustrative example: a customer balance appears paid, but the receipt has no invoice reference. The health check should make the missing link visible before any correction is agreed.

Input

Customer outstanding list, invoice register and the relevant bank receipt for the same cut-off date.

Review

Compare the customer, amount and payment reference. A similar amount alone is not enough to clear an invoice.

Output

An issue entry naming the source, amount, missing evidence, responsible person and agreed follow-up date.

Decision

The business confirms the allocation or supplies evidence. Any approved correction belongs in the agreed working scope; it is not silently made by the diagnostic review.

Acceptance: Accept the health check when the assessed period, records received, limitations and next-step scope are documented. Do not mistake a diagnostic report for completed bookkeeping, an audit or filing proof.

Secure handover and exit: Before engaging, agree who retains source files, what working files or exports will be delivered, how unresolved items transfer, and when temporary access ends. Never share banking passwords or OTPs through the public form.

How the conversation works

Start with the records you already have.

  1. Tell us how records are handled today.
  2. Identify the gaps, repeated work and review points.
  3. Choose the Truetal workflow that fits those records.
  4. Keep judgement calls with the business or its appointed adviser.
Clear boundaries

What this page does not promise

  • Truetal does not replace the business owner’s or adviser’s judgement.
  • Tax positions, certifications and statutory filings require review by the appropriately qualified person.
  • Scope and next steps are discussed before any service is agreed; this page does not promise a fixed outcome or price.

A practical next step

Start with a books health check.

Tell us the approximate monthly record volume, current system and backlog. We will confirm the information needed to review a sample month and scope the next step. Do not send confidential records through the public form.
